With their debut record Narmada, released by Belle-Records in early 2008, the Neil Welch group has proven to be a genre-defying ensemble.  It was essential for Neil to record a group with a strong artistic message, but above all, a concrete band sound.  Included in the ensemble are Chris Icasiano-drums, Luke Bergman-bass, Cam Peace-guitar, Brian Kinsella-piano, Tor Dietrichson-tabla/congas/percussion, Pandit Debi Prasad Chatterjee-sitar, and Neil Welch-saxophones.

Heavily influenced by Hindustani music and the spiritual music of Trane, Ayler, and Pharoah, Narmada draws from an eclectic music palate.  From free improvisation, highly arranged multi-meter composition, to traditional Hindustani musical form (Alap, Jor, Jhala), the record is a new direction for each of the musicians involved, and is a true extension of their musical development and evolution as a band.

Each member of the ensemble is involved in an eclectic variety of music, including: electronica, fierce free improvisation, phase and minimalist music, rock opera, world music, swing, and classical Hindustani music.  Be on the lookout for this new record, and be sure to check out each musicians website above to hear their unique approach to the creation of their art.
