The Shark...

So, its been a long time coming, but Narmada is being pressed as we speak.  After close to two months of consistent mixing, Vinnie (of Belle Records) and I are in love with the sound of the mix.  I made sure to include many of the cats on the record in the mixing process--namely drummer Chris Icasiano and bassist Luke Bergman, who were a ton of help throughout the project.

We had a great time navigating the different sound spectrums on the record, since some compositions were only quintet-based, while others presented a large challenge of a 7-piece group (with saxophone, guitar, piano, bass, drums, tabla and sitar!)  I am totally confident and excited about the incredible music we made together, and I think the mix is really a reflection of that vision.  Each tune required a different kind of approach to achieving the best sound, and the end result is a unified sound concept from start ot finish in the mix.  I'm working on putting up some updated sound clips in the near future, so stick with me and keep on checking out the site.

Oh yah, and I should also mention how killing the CD packaging, artwork, and layout is.  All of the layout was created by my friend, photographer Nathan Vass, who was at the session to take photographs for use in the album artwork.  He is a gifted artist who truly controlled the visual aspect of the record date.  The design and layout are as hip and varied as the music--only two more weeks until it's available!

We're Finished Recording!

After two terrific days in the studio we're finished with the major recording of my debut record, [Narmada].  Produced by myself with Vinnie LeBelle of Belle-Records, the project included:

Chris Icasiano-drums  / Luke Bergman-bass  / Brian Kinsella-piano /  Cam Peace-guitars  /  Tor Dietrichson-tablas/congas/percussion   /  Pandit Debi Prasad Chatterjee-sitar   /  Neil Welch-Tenor and Soprano Saxophones

With 5 original charts, one Radiohead cover, and one Hindustani composition, this album will be an artistic statement.

Most of the tunes were recorded with little or no over-dubbing, and featured music ranging from quiet--composed improvisation, to classical Hindustani music, multi-meter composition, and free improvisation.  I am so fortunate to have the opportunity to play with such gifted musicians--each of us truly captured the spirit of this music.  Please click the links above to sample the innovative music each of these musicians creates.  We'll begin mixing soon, so stay tuned to get a little taste of the music!
